History
Daniw Residence and Study Center established in 1990 is among the study centers of KALFI. It is located in the heart of Varsity Hills in Loyola Heights, Quezon City. It is a project of Kalinangan Youth Foundation, Inc. (KALFI), a private non-stock, non-profit foundation that primarily aims to provide holistic formation to high school, college students, and young professionals all-year round. To achieve this goal, KALFI put up study centers in key locations best accessible to the youth.
Since 1983, KALFI has been offering programs and activities for women youth development focusing on character building and social service. Study centers are run by competent and dedicated management staff and volunteers. The patrons association help seek financial support from donors and funding agencies for the maintenance and upkeep of each center as well as for the financial support of programs and activities provided by the center.
The doctrinal and spiritual formation offered in the centers of KALFI is entrusted to OPUS DEI, a Personal Prelature of the Catholic Church. It is the Latin term for “Work of God”. Opus Dei’s mission is to spread the Christian message that study and work, family life and ordinary events of each day are opportunities for drawing close to Christ and making Him known to others. Opus Dei offers spiritual formation aimed at helping people develop their spiritual life and apostolate.
Inspiration
The activities in Daniw find inspiration in the teachings of St. Josemaria Escriva, founder of Opus Dei. His main message is that holiness is within reach of everyone as long as she strives to do her ordinary work and duties well and with love for God.
Proof of the message’s effectiveness is that St. Josemaria himself has been raised to the altars with his Canonization in 2002 , the beatification of his most faithful son and first successor as head of Opus Dei, Bishop Alvaro del Portillo; and recently , the beatification of the first lay person in Opus Dei, Guadalupe Ortiz de Landazuri.
